APPRECIATION

“Whakapuputia mai o manuka, kia kore ai e whati there is great strength in togetherness”

The Trustees are aware of misinformation circulating amongst the Hapū. This is regrettable.

The Trustees were appointed by the Māori Land Court on 25 June 2020 with very clear direction that the trustees are personally liable for the marae hauora on behalf of nga uri O Taiwhakaea. We have had two day-long hui and one two hour zoom hui since then. We are working on and communicating about Marae business each week and we have scheduled a full day kanohi ki te kanohi hui at least every three to four weeks.

Wharenui Closure

The maihi had to be removed as it was badly deteriorated. Several pieces had fallen out during COVID -19 level four. This posed a huge health and safety issue for the Marae. After urgent consultation with Kaumatua it was removed. On removal electrical burning from the light fitting behind Kiore was found. Had that ignited then we are not confident that the insurers would have paid to rebuild the whare.

Wharekai Closure

The trust moved with urgency to have professionals assess and quote for electrical, air conditioning, plumbing-drainage, gas, fire protection, sewage, signage, general building and whakairo repairs with water proofing protection and code of compliance.

It is unlawful, and dangerous to use any of the services in the wharekai. It needs to be appreciated that any fire or other damage caused by the gas or electricity would not be covered by insurance.

Appreciation

You have elected a good mix of Taiwhakaea uri to undertake the role of kaitiakitanga transition between new and existing structures will require a little bit of time, please be assured that roles processes and responsibilities have been a priority.

The Trust has applied for the PGF (Provincial Growth Fund) post covid funding that will enable us to cover all our concerns once a successful response is received. The Trustees will provide a project plan with time-frames however if the application for funding is unsuccessful plan B would be provided to you all.

We appreciate the efforts of everyone involved, helping to get our marae up and running. Nga mihi ki a koutou.
